All of us have developed our own leadership style and techniques throughout our careers as military officers and career civilians. We have all adopted those best practices from our Service cultures and great leaders we have had in our own careers. This course is outstanding in giving further perspectives and providing new, informative, and organized way to further hone our leadership abilities and traits. Overall, great course.
In theory, we all know what leadership is, but this course gave definitions, perspective, and put context to specific things that make a GREAT leader. The content seems intuitive (like “of course positive reinforcement is more effective than negative reinforcement”) but the way that even intuitive concepts are broken down provides “aha” moments on how to make good leadership skills implementable. And Dr. Arrington’s presentation is interesting and engaging; I did not find myself distracted or falling asleep at all.
I accept that the title of my review is a little weird. The course information is relatively simple with an implied task of applying what you have learned in your job. The slides with bullet comments can almost act as checklists. An example would be “Accountability in Action”. You could ask yourself, “Am I setting clear expectations?”, “Am I tasking 1 person only?”, “Did I set a follow up schedule?”, “Do I need a course correction?”, “Are we celebrating milestones?”. Simple, executable leadership training.
Found this course provides a fresh take on several foundational aspects of managing teams. The course was taught at a steady pace, with every module about 30+ minutes long. That was a good length to keep focus on the material.
This course is great and helps you understand and take away best practices for the full cycle of managing, supervising and leading others!
